Hsinchu, Taiwan, July 2, 2021 — Zyxel Communications announced today that it has successfully completed interoperability testing of its XGS-PON solutions for Chunghwa Telecom’s open broadband access network concept. The completion of the trial marks an important milestone for the plan by Taiwan’s largest telecommunication company to deliver customizable high-speed fiber internet services.
The “Open Network” concept breaks the barriers between devices from different vendors, giving service providers the flexibility to deploy or upgrade hardware on a cloud platform and differentiate from competitors with customizable broadband services.
Chunghwa Telecom Laboratories has devoted considerable resources to cloud communications studies spearheaded by global open source communities and international standards organizations.
In response to the rising trend of open access infrastructure for fiber optic networks, Zyxel partnered with Chunghwa Telecom and fiber optics equipment and networking software vendors from Taiwan and around the world to test the interoperability of its XGS-PON solutions. The completion of the trial empowers Chunghwa Telecom to demonstrate its Gigabit-class broadband access and high-definition MOD services.
