Hsinchu Taiwan, 07 February 2013 — Barcelona, Spain – Lantiq and Zyxel Communications, two leading producers of broadband access technology and service provider solutions, announced that Zyxel’s award winning LTE5121 LTE solutions multi-service gateway now supports Voice over LTE (VoLTE). Availability of VoLTE on a fixed LTE gateway platform allows communications carriers to better manage network operations and costs to deliver wireless broadband triple-play services to subscribers.
The Zyxel LTE5121 gateway was a CES 2013 Innovations Design and Engineering Honoree in the Home Networking Product category; recognized for its innovative design, engineering and cutting-edge features that address what consumers and the market are expecting from 4G/LTE technologies. The rich feature sets, built upon an all-in-one future-proof platform, enable carriers to deploy 4G/LTE services where fixed broadband cannot be quickly or easily reached. The LTE5121 Gateway is also the best platform for Zyxel to enable upcoming VoLTE capability for household markets. With this Gateway carriers can provide the same high quality of voice, data and video triple-play services as wired broadband can serve today, but without requiring wired last-mile infrastructure such as copper or fiber.
The field proven and widely deployed Lantiq XWAY™ GRX288 Broadband network processor that powers the LTE5121 gateway manages the VoLTE software stack, which provides native voice and other rich media services. Lantiq also provides the required voice-line service chip (XWAY™ SLIC110) needed to use standard phone terminals in a home or small business.
