GPON HGU with 1-port GbE LAN

As wired broadband access technology evolves, not only the number of subscribers grows, but also the bandwidth demanded by each individual home or enterprise unit. High-bandwidth services such as 4K/8K HD video streaming and cloud-based data storage have become trendy as they changed user behaviors in a significant way. At the same time, they also triggered strong demands for higher access speed in the Gigabit class.

The Zyxel PMG2005-T20B with 1-port GbE LAN is a dual-mode ONT (Bridge/Router) that enables service providers to address subscriber demands for Gigabit-class data access under the P2MP structure. With the Gateway behind ONT, subscribers can enjoy seamless high-quality triple-play services such as voice, data and video with remarkable Internet speed and connectivity through either wired or wireless connections.

With the P2MP structure, service providers are able to provide various service packages to fulfill different user requirements with sites of a single deployment taking advantage of the most cost-effective product combinations. The Zyxel PMG2005-T20B can perform as a Layer-2 ONT followed by any Layer-3 device such as routers, WiFi APs, home gateways and more – depending on the preference of individual subscribers. For some specific applications, the PMG2005-T20B can even be configured as a Layer-3 router to provide Internet services. Since WLAN technologies and other gateway interface requirements evolve rapidly, this two-box solution reserves the space for service providers to replace the second box with the same PON management interface as long as they retain the PMG2005-T20B as their GPON access terminal.
